Today marks the anniversary of the death of Jean de Grailly, the Captal de Buch, famous hero knight of Gascony in service to King Edward III of England. There is much to be said of this man, cousin to Gaston Phoebus, Count of Foix, especial
ly of his military success. He led a successful Anglo Gascon cavalry charge at Poitiers and with his cousin Gaston Pheobus defeated a force of 9000 rebels with only 140 men at Meaux to protect the ladies of the town from marauding Jacques. He died a captive of the French king who refused to ransom his release because of his skill as a warrior and commander. It is believed he died in a coma brought on from depression and starvation. www.sirjustyn.com
